Anal Fistula 肛周脓肿
Our team of physicians have treated many cases of anal fistula. In TCM we called it "肛周脓肿" in the past. Most cases happened in adults, age ranges from 28 to 70.
An Anal Fistula is an abnormal "tunnel" or tract between the anal canal and the external buttock skin. In normal individuals, this channel should not exist. An anal fistula most often happens from an anal gland that has developed a pus-filled infection (abscess).
Often the abscess grow at the side near the anus.
The signs and symptoms are that there is a big abscess growing near the anus. You may have pain in the anus and rectum, irritation of the skin around the anus, pus and blood from the skin around the anus. Most patients first noted some yellowish stains or a small amount of faeces on the underwear. Patients often mistook this for faecal incontinence.
Unfortunately, once you have anal fistula, you are likely to have repeated episodes of buttock abscesses. Very often this kind of abscess can grow into a bigger size, patients felt very uncomfortable and are not able to sit down. Some western doctors will recommend surgery. We TCM physicians use a different method. We treat by giving them herbal medicine and administer acupuncture on the fistula. We will also prescribe natural herbs to wash the area so that the pus of the abscess can be drained out. We advise patients to keep the anus clean after every bowel movement. Usually, if the anus is kept clean, the anal fistula is unlikely to recur again. No surgery is necessary.
Most of these cases happened in adults, however, there is a case of a young boy who had abscess near the anus and it occurred every few months. His parent asked if we could treat him. We treated him and the abscess disappeared after a few days. We told him to keep the anus clean after every bowel movement.

A Man had Anal Fistula, Perianal abscess 肛周脓肿
A man age 43, came and complained that there was a very big abscess at his buttock and could not sit on a chair, he stood most of the time. We look at his buttock and told him that he had Anal Fistula. His abscess was swollen but was a bit inflamed. We prescribed some medicine and also gave him a packet of raw natural herbal medicine and gave him an instruction how to brew the medicine and wash with his abscess on his buttock. After about two days, his abscess ripened and the pus came out from the abscess. Then, he realized that the abscess was flattened, and his pain reduced. After the next day, he had no more pain. We told him that he should refrain from taking too much of spicy and toxic food such as prawn heads, small shrimps, squids and clamps.
