In my late teens, I was diagnosed with “chronic eczema”. Having had eczema for the majority of my childhood, I didn’t think much of it as I lathered the creams prescribed by my doctor onto my affected areas. However, my rash was extensive and persistent. I was then put on multiple courses of phototherapy, predxxxxx, cyclxxxxx, dupixxxxx. I even sought treatment in two other local TCM clinics, but all to no avail. I felt devastated as the doctor suggested that I’d be warded, as my “chronic eczema” was deemed out of control.
That was when my family member suggested to seek treatment at Dr Ong’s clinic. She appeared to be well-versed and experienced in treating skin conditions like mine. Hence began my journey of going through steroid withdrawal under her care.
My initial symptoms were debilitating. My skin was in a constant state of oozing, till I smelled like a cadaver. My limbs were swollen and mobility was difficult. Insomnia visited me every night and I was itching uncontrollably, feeling jittery all the time, whilst having thermoregulation issues. My skin was flaking terribly, and my whole body was affected - even my soles and palms were oozing and itchy. Chunks of hair would fall out as the skin of my scalp was damaged as well. At my worst I was in no condition to work and I had difficulty doing my day-to-day tasks.
Under the supervision of Dr Ong I was due for weekly consultation and multiple courses of acupuncture. Each week, Dr Ong would diligently customise my herbal medication based on my present condition. She would assure me that I will recover under her care, for she had seen many cases like mine before. She would even brief me on the different phases that I can expect to experience in my journey to recovery. After repeated visits at the clinic, I saw vast improvement and the inflammation of my skin was greatly reduced, and soon I stopped oozing nor had flaky skin. My skin became a lot healthier and stronger, and I no longer experience the same deep-bone itch, or severe chills today. The herbal prescriptions were crucial in supplementing my recovery, and now I can finally return to my normal life and feel a lot more comfortable living in my own skin. I am thus grateful to Dr Ong and her clinic’s assistants for their efforts in helping me to get better. My daughter went completely off steroid on 10th Oct 2023, the symptoms of her steroid withdrawal was awfully bad. In the beginning her body was very swollen, and her skin was always weeping. She was constantly itching and in pain. She could not walk or eat properly because her soles and her skin of her mouth were broken. Her ears and nose were weepy and blocked. Her vision was also blurred. I had to assist her in many things since her mobility was limited. It was a choice to keep the house clean due to the amount of skin flakes. I had to partially assist in her bathing needs because it was too painful for her to touch water. Her sleep was always interrupted with her severe itching, and she would be jittering at times.
With the help of Dr. Ong
and her other physicians, she was able to recover and now her skin is so much
better. Within 3-4 months, her severe symptoms were gone, and she was able to
move around normally again. Her skin flakes were reduced, and bathing was not
as painful as before. She was able to sleep better, and her itch was no where

Testimony of a Mother of a 5 years old girl
We first visited Eastern Healing in early April 2023. At that time my daughter’s eczema had spread to her entire body, from her face to legs, with patches of dry skin on her face, back of elbows, thighs, back of knees, small bumps on torso and calf (which seemingly to appear at night and less visible in the day). It was a very trying period for her & the family as she was hardly able to sleep to the point that she was not able to go to school. When she managed to fall asleep, it will not last more than 45mins as she will be woken up by the itch followed by a scratching frenzy of 1-2hrs. This cycle continues throughout the night.
First 6 Weeks prior to our 1st Visit to Eastern Healing (End Feb- Early Apr 2023)
Earlier in Feb, we noticed that her scratching (especially at night) had intensify which resulted in redness & inflammation on her elbows, thigh and knees. We brought her to a skin clinic and she was prescribed fungal cream, steroid cream, oat-based bath and moisturizer. We used steroid sparingly due to concern of skin thinning and only on inflamed spots. Her condition improved after 2 weeks but unfortunately, flares up again. By the 4th week, the eczema has worsen to a huge patch. As it should no longer be a fungal infection at this point and we decided to stop both steroid and fungal cream. For the next 2 weeks, we continue with our routine to moisturize her every 1-2 hrs and watched her throughout the night to mitigate her scratching. However, her condition worsened. Every shower was a torture as it stings throughout and she was not able to have a proper sleep. This gentlemen, age 32, had Psoriasis for about two years. He came from Sabah Malaysia to work in Singapore. He told us his story. He said he loved "laksa" which is a very famous dish in Sabah. Lately he cooked laksa at home and put in a lot of prawn heads and prawn shrimps. Also he went out with his friends to eat Korean Barbeque beef and chicken. He enjoyed himself a lot with all these food for some time. Within two months, he had very bad psoriasis in his body. He went to western doctor and was prescribed with oral steroid and steroid cream. A 65 yrs old woman, suffered from Psoriasis came to our clinic seeking for a cure for her Psoriasis. She was very determined to have her psoriasis cured. My son is a patient of Dr Ong. Bfore I continue w my story, I would like to share that I am a mother of 2 boys, 10 and 3 years old. My elder son was diagnosed with slight eczema during the age of 2+, with signs of allergy like hives at times. I tried over the yrs with many doctors, specialists, old wife tales, Mlm products, home remedies to over-the-counter creams and whatnots. We went to visit Dr Ong recently at their Clementi branch Eastern Healing TCM Clinic Pte Ltd. And I am pleased with the recovery of my son's eczema With doctors, I definitely know that there were mild steroids as I would always ask them bfore I proceed. Why did I do so? Pls, do take the time to read this story of a grab driver whom was bed bounded for 2 years with “Dup*****” (and/or some other steroid) injections n affected him very badly. Few yrs back, I hop onto a grab car n sat in the front seat (as a form of respect to all drivers prior to Covid). I noticed... along the trip, he was tweaking n scratching. He was also wearing full long sleeves but I could see clearly from his naked skin that they were so red and damaged. Half way through the ride I couldn’t take it anymore. I felt like asking, so that I could share, so that I could care, or probably even help in any way I could. I asked “Sorry, do you have eczema?” He was furious! I was afraid, as he started to sound angry, all I saw was flakes of skin flying around including his entire car deck. “It is all those doctors!! Do you know I was bed ridden for 2 years? I just came out only because I have to survive. I could not leave my house for 2 yrs! My mother was taking care of me. My bedlinens are filled with blood every day! I have been living in hell and don’t tell me about doctors!!” “Sorry, why do you say that?” I asked. “Because my son also has eczema, but now I am afraid seeing you mention it this way. Could you care to explain more?” He calmed down, “I also have eczema initially, like your son. I went to doctors, was prescribed creams… and then long enough we turned to oral medications… and in the end we went for jabs. I felt, wow the jabs were amazing, not only did my eczema stop flaring, I felt so energetic as well. Little did I know, the jabs went from once a year, to once in half year, to monthly and that’s when I felt something is wrong. I cannot possibly keep going for jabs as they seemed to be getting less effective. And they are definitely not cheap! When I decided to stop going for jabs, I started flaring out super badly, I started to google and find out more information online. And that was when I found out I was having steroid withdrawal.
